Odisha Lockdown News: 14-day lockdown in state from May 5 to May 19, know restrictions and guidelines
The Odisha government on Sunday announced sweeping restrictions in wake of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. As per the restrictions announced, the state will go under a complete lockdown for 14 days which will start from May 5 and will continue till May 19.
As per the guidelines issued by the Odisha government, a person can walk only 500 metres to buy vegetables from 7 am till 12 pm every day. However, the government has not imposed any restrictions on the movement of essential services and people related to health care facilities and services. The government’s order on Sunday also stated that the state will witness a complete shutdown on weekends starting 6 pm on Fridays till 5 am on Monday. During weekends, they will only be able to avail medical services.
UIDAI to allow Aadhaar authentication using face recognition
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Monday announced the addition of facial recognition-based authentication for Aadhaar users, especially those who have problems with other forms of biometric verification such as fingerprint or iris, and said it will be launched by July 1 2018.
“UIDAI introduces yet another landmark technology for authentication – Face Authentication. #AadhaarFaceAuth will help all elderly or other facing issues with fingerprint authentication. Service to be launched by July 1, 2018,” Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO UIDAI said in a tweet.
Aadhaar-Bank a/c linking deadline extended to March 31
The government on Wednesday extended by three months till March 31, 2018 the deadline for mandatory quoting of Aadhaar and PAN for all bank accounts and certain financial transactions.
The deadline was earlier December 31 for linking the 12-digit unique identification number with both Permanent Account Number (PAN) and bank accounts. However, the government extended the deadline last week for linking it with PAN till March 31.
IMD alerts cyclone for Odisha
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issues an alert about a cyclonic storm over Odisha’s coast as the depression over southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and lay centered over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal today, about 780 km south-southwest of Gopalpur.
“The system is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards along and off Andhra Pradesh coast and further intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-eastwards along and off north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Coasts during the next 48 hours,” the IMD said.
